Defeating Agassi

During a tennis career there are always some special and unforgettable matches. They have a strong influence on how a career continues. Here is a collection of my special matches.

Winning against Andre Agassi in the 2nd round at Wimbledon in 1998 was a very important success for me. On the centre court. In the middle of the attention. And suddenly you understand that you can beat anybody, even the best players on the Tour.

First ATP-tournament title

Another milestone was my first ATP title in 1999. Jim Courier was my opponent in the Memphis finals. At that stage, I had been in 3 finals before but had never won. This final was a different story, though: I managed to win the match. Against Jim Courier, a great player whom I have always adored for what he achieved.

Beating Sampras

When playing Pete Sampras in the Long Island finals in 2001 I had this good feeling again. Playing stars like Agassi or Sampras is always special. Usually, there is a huge crowd following the match. Quite often, they are supporting the big players very enthusiastically. And there is always the fear of not performing well and losing in straight sets. It happened to me in the final of the Masters Series tournement in Roma 2002 against Agassi for example.
