My home in Sarasota
In the beginning of 2002, a real big dream came true for me. I moved from Bradenton, where the Bollettieri Tennis Academy is, into my own house in Sarasota. Here, I have everything I need. It was important to find a place where my whole family can stay with me when they are in Florida. Since I am travelling a lot on the ATP tour, I don't spend much time at home. Having a place where I feel comfortable and where I like to come to is therefore very important for me. There is nothing better than coming home to your own place where you can do whatever you want.
My house is pretty close to the Academy - I only have to drive around 15 kilometers for training. The thing I like about Florida is the weather. I can play tennis outside all year long plus I never have to worry about the weather when doing things in my spare time.
The town of Sarasota itself is fairly uninteresting. It is located on the western coast of Florida and there is no cultural life there at all. What I like about it is how quite and relaxed life is. Finding a parking spot is never a problem here and all supermarkets are open all day and night - a big difference to Germany. There is even a beach right next to my house. To me, being at home means being on vacations. I travel a lot all year round. This is why I try to spend my time in Sarasota like other people spend their holidays.
